This study employed a qualitative analysis of popular romantic narratives, including films, television shows, and novels. A total of 20 romantic storylines were selected for analysis, representing a range of genres, including romantic comedy, drama, and romance. Each narrative was coded using the FLV index, with a focus on the Friendship, Love, and Vulnerability dimensions.
The study also highlights the importance of considering the cultural context in which romantic relationships are represented. By examining FLV indices and relationship dynamics, researchers can identify patterns and tropes that reflect cultural values and norms.
The FLV index, developed by media scholars, categorizes romantic relationships into three primary dimensions: Friendship, Love, and Vulnerability. The Friendship dimension captures the degree to which romantic partners share a foundation of mutual respect, trust, and companionship.
